Crime down

THE community police officer for Frizington and Arlecdon has reported a quiet August in terms of criminal activity in the area.

PC Kenny MacLeod said that the school holiday months usually see an upturn in incidents, but the parish, which also covers Rowrah and Asby, has bucked the trend.

There were only two arrests in August, compared to a monthly average of 11. There was one domestic assault, one break-in – of a lock-up in Rowrah – and two thefts, PC MacLeod told a meeting of Arlecdon and Frizington Parish Council.

However, there were four damage-only car crashes in August and nine incidents of damage to parked cars. Parish councillors expressed concerns over people speeding.

Arlecdon School is to be given £200 from the Police Property Fund. The money will go towards an outdoor play area.
