THE magnificent views over Derwentwater were a distraction for West Cumberland Orienteers at their evening event from Ashness Bridge on Thursday last week.

Lewis Taylor showed it could be done at speed, with a great performance, taking a six minute leading margin on the long course. Pete Nelson, returning to fitness, was second, just ahead of the improving Mike Harrison.

Katrina Hemingway was a very impressive first lady taking 56.42, almost 30 seconds ahead of Margaret Mackenzie.

On the short course, jun-ior Paul Eaton took a well earned second behind Roger Thomas. Ten-year-old Alast-air Thomas was seventh. Becca Telford had another win on the easy course ahead of newcomer Rowan Jackson and her brother Chris.

The series of summer evening events continues through August, with details of the various venues and parking on the website www.wcoc.co.uk.
