Visit Cleator Moor's Library in 2008 Year of Reading

2008 is the National Year of Reading, so it’s a great time to visit Cleator Moor’s library, grab a great book, and get involved.

Parents are being encouraged to spend 10 minutes a day reading with children, and three’s plenty of reading material available in the children’s section of the library.

Library worker Joan Harrison is hopes as many people as possible can share the joy of reading. “A book takes you to another place,” she said, “they take you into a land that you wouldn’t go to.”

Cleator Moor’s library is also stocked with the latest newspapers freely available to read.

The building itself celebrated its 100th birthday in 2006, but it offers up to date information and entertainment in the form of DVDs and high speed internet access.

Reading groups are available to all at the library, held the last Thursday in each month, lasting from 2 till 3pm.

If after all that reading you feel inspired, there’s also a regular writing group held on the first Tuesday morning of every month at 10, lasting two hours. Both of these activities are without charge.

Cleator Moor has a rich and interesting history, and you can investigate and learn about this as part of the Local History Society, meeting on the second Monday of the month at 7pm. There is a charge of £2.
